Whether you’re taking a spur-of-the-moment day trip or stopping over on your way to another destination, browse through our top tips for things to do when you only have 24 hours in the country’s southernmost city.

Breakfast at Yellowfin Bar & Grill

Start your morning with a hearty breakfast at a Stock Island staple, Yellowfin Bar & Grill. Here you’ll enjoy both classic and tropically inspired breakfast options to help fuel your jam-packed day in Key West.

Duval Street Shopping

Make your way into downtown Key West and stroll down the famous Duval Street. Spanning a little more than a mile long, Duval Street houses everything from a diverse collection of bars and restaurants to the best shopping in the city. Pick up a keepsake of your day trip at some of our favorite stores, including Besame Mucho and the Key West Shell Warehouse.

Hemingway House

A must-see in Key West, the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is among the city’s most prized historical attractions. The acclaimed author called Key West home for more than 10 years, and it was here that he wrote some of his most famous novels, including “A Farewell to Arms” and “Death in the Afternoon.” During your visit, you might notice some unique residents — namely, the famous six-toed cats!

Dinner at The Flaming Buoy Filet Co.

Treat yourself to some of the freshest seafood in town at the beloved The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. The restaurant offers a quirky atmosphere decked out in Star Wars memorabilia. While you’re here, be sure to try the lobster mac and cheese or the red Thai curry with Key West pink shrimp.

Watch the Sunset From the Beach

After a full day of exploring, end your time in Key West on the beach as the sun sets. Among our favorite sunset viewing spots is the Fort Zachary Taylor beach. Sink your toes in the sand as you watch the sky light up in a dazzling display of color.
