Downtown Key West

Discover Laid Back Duval Street

Stretching nearly a mile, Duval Street and its environs have made a name as one of Florida's most famous cultural hubs. Marked by stately palms, white picket fences, and verandas perfect for people watching, you'll be utterly at ease in this downtown district. With dozens of restaurants, bars, shops, and cultural institutions to choose from, you can feast, drink, and delve into Key West history at your leisure. Although the neighborhood's charm can't be fully summed up in just a few points of interest, here are some of the best things to do on Duval Street.

Rick's Bar

Don't be deceived by the singular: This is actually eight bars in one. Whatever your desired occasion—a calm afternoon of sipping tropical drinks at Mardi Gras, a night of dancing at Rick's Upstairs, or a boisterous bachelorette party at the Red Garter Saloon—this bustling complex has the answer.

The Key West Aquarium

With plenty of opportunities to get up close and personal with some of the region's most fascinating creatures, the Key West Aquarium is known for its touch tank full of sea urchins, conchs, sea stars, and other species; interactive shark feeding sessions; and sea turtle conservation tours. Explore the magnificent marine life of the Keys at one of the islands' best family destinations.

Ernest Hemingway House and Museum

A French Colonial landmark in its own right, this house is imbued with literary history. In addition to the iconic population of polydactyl cats, you'll be awestruck by the stunning gardens, the architectural details of the house, and the collection of European antiques amassed by Hemingway and Pauline Pfeiffer.

Shopping in Key West

While not a bustling shopping destination in the way of other Floridian cities, downtown Key West still has its share of places to find one-of-a-kind gifts and keepsakes. Ron Jon Surf Shop is a beloved beachwear legend, Cigar City is home to the largest inventory of Cuban cigars in Key West, and Clinton Square Market is the area's best choice if you're seeking some mall-style shopping.

Schooner Wharf Bar

A laid-back oceanfront choice for seafood, the Schooner Wharf has been serving up delicious fare since 1984. Located in the former Singleton Shrimp factory, the restaurant features a regular schedule of live music, providing a mellow yet lively background for a relaxed meal.

Downtown Shuttle Service
